Our story

Five generations of oyster passion on Arcachon Bay.

Element

A hut born out of passion

On the shores of Arcachon Bay, a love story with oysters spanning more than twenty years.

Located on the western dyke of La Teste-de-Buch harbour, La Cabane du Paliquey is far more than just a tasting venue: it is a living tribute to a family passion passed down through five generations. Founded in 2004 by Nicolas Labarthe — farmer, producer and affineur — it was born from his desire to breathe new life into an old oyster hut that was due for demolition.

The Paliquey legacy

A name, a memory, an ancestral fishing technique.

Named ‘La Cabane du Paliquey’ in honour of his great-grandfather, a traditional ‘palet’ fisherman, the hut keeps alive the memory of an ancient fishing technique. Once practiced by the ‘paliqueys’, this method — one of the oldest on the Bay — involved setting nets on stakes to catch fish carried in by the rising tide.

Expertise rooted in the Bay

From the oyster park to your plate, the freshest of the day.

A true reflection of his passion, Nicolas has poured his expertise and love of the Bay into this authentic spot where you can savour oysters and shellfish with your feet almost in the water. Come and taste oysters raised just nearby, served fresh, with a well-chilled glass of white and a view over the channel.
